Jessica Lynch, director of the at the ÍøÆØÃÅ, knows that feeling well.

"Every time you walked into that space, you could feel it," she said. "It wasn't just memorabilia; it was history. It was identity."

Now, with a transformative $1.5 million commitment from the M-Club, that legacy will move into the new Triplett Alumni Center upon completion.

The gift will create a dedicated third floor spanning more than 12,000 square feet, offering room to celebrate a broader, more inclusive story of Ole Miss athletics, one that includes national champions in women's golf, College World Series appearances in baseball, Olympic track athletes and rifle champions, among many others.

"We've somewhat limited ourselves in Starnes because of space," Lynch said. "Now we have the opportunity to showcase a much more diverse population of our athletes and their accomplishments."

The decision reflects a collective vision rather than a single donor.

"This is truly an organizational gift," Lynch said. "It reflects who we are and what we believe our legacy should be now and in the future."

Far from a static display of trophies and photos, the M-Club's new home will function as an immersive, interactive experience.

Visitors will enter a gathering space before moving into Merkel Legacy Hall, where achievements across all sports will take center stage. Digital installations, storytelling features and curated exhibits will ensure that history is both preserved and brought to life.

"We want people to feel what they felt at Starnes but also extend that experience beyond former athletes," Lynch said. "This will be a place where anyone on a random Tuesday can walk in, explore and connect."

The accessibility of the new location is central to its purpose. While the Starnes space is largely used only on game days, the Triplett Alumni Center will open the door for year-round engagement.

Prospective students, visiting families and alumni returning to campus can engage with the university's athletics legacy in a meaningful way. The M-Club envisions the space as a hub of connection.

For current student-athletes, it's a chance to better understand the tradition they represent. Lynch recalled a powerful moment when football players used the existing M-Club room during their team room renovations.

"Some of them had never even been in that space," she said. "They saw the All-Americans, the Hall of Famers, the jerseys and suddenly those weren't just honors anymore; they were tangible goals."

That sense of connection is something Lynch hopes to expand.

"It helps athletes see what they can achieve, the impact they can have and the responsibility that comes with wearing that jersey," she said.

The space will also host ceremonies, such as letter jacket presentations, allowing athletes to experience milestones in an environment that reflects the magnitude of their accomplishments.

"When they receive that jacket surrounded by the legacy of those who came before them, it just means more," Lynch said.

The new space will include dedicated areas recognizing some of Ole Miss' most iconic figures: The Mannings will have a designated room; coaches Johnny Vaught and Jake Gibbs will be represented through curated collections from their coaching and playing careers; a balcony will honor coach Billy Brewer, supported by a grassroots fundraising campaign organized by former players.

And the storytelling won't stop there.

With more than 4,000 letterwinners, the M-Club continues to discover new histories worth sharing, such as athletes who have become doctors, authors, business leaders and Olympians.

"There are stories we're still uncovering," Lynch said. "That's part of what makes this so meaningful. We're continuing to learn and celebrate the full impact of these individuals."

The club's gift represents a collective investment, funded through organizational resources and designed to give back to the athletes it represents. The decision reflects a larger responsibility for incoming M-Club alumni president Jennifer Calhoun, of Tupelo, who played golf for the Rebels in the early '90s.

"In the changing landscape of college athletics, it's important that letterwinner organizations remain anchors of tradition," she said. "This ensures that future athletes understand where they come from and have a place to come back to.

"Our emphasis on continuity and on bridging generations is what makes this project so powerful. This is something the M-Club can say is ours for generations to come."

M-Club alumni president Ben Still, of Memphis, Tennessee, a former Rebel football player, expressed deep appreciation for the opportunity to make such a meaningful contribution.

"We are incredibly grateful to be able to give back to the university and the student-athletes who come after us," Still said. "This gift honors all the letterwinners who have worn Ole Miss across their jerseys, and it ensures their stories will continue to inspire future generations."
