The Office of Financial Aid is responsible for assisting students in navigating various financial aid options and providing guidance on scholarships, grants, loans, and work-study programs to make higher education accessible and affordable.

Veteran and Military Services Scholarship Application

VMS will process applications for some internal scholarships for our veteran and military-connected students. Apply to receive a UM-specific scholarship using the application below.

Air & Space Forces Aid Society

Dependent children and spouses of Airmen and Guardians can work toward their dreams of a college degree with AFAS education grants, scholarships and loans.

Air & Space Forces Association

In 2025, AFA contributed more than $110,000 to Airmen, Guardians, their spouses, and their children through 11 unique scholarships.

Airmen Memorial Foundation (AMF)

The Airmen Memorial Foundation (AMF) conducts scholarship programs to financially assist the undergraduate studies of eligible dependents of military personnel.

American Legion Auxiliary Scholarships

The Auxiliary supports various scholarship programs that benefit veterans, the descendants of veterans, and The American Legion Family.

American Legion Scholarships

The American Legion’s scholarships provide financial assistance to high school students with exceptional academic and leadership qualities, including those participating in youth programs or connected to military service.

AMVETS

AMVETS offers scholarships/grants to Veterans, Active Duty, Guard/Reserve, spouses as well as their Children and Grandchildren. AMVETS scholarships fill a financial gap after all Federal/State grants and/or scholarships available to an eligible applicant have been exhausted.

Armed Forces Communications & Electronics Association

AFCEA International and its chapters and corporate partners offer a variety of scholarships. Primarily STEM.

Army Women's Foundation (AWF)

Applicant must be a woman who has served or is serving honorably in the U.S. Army, U.S. Army Reserve or Army National Guard or the lineal descendant of a woman who has served or is serving honorably in the U.S. Army, U.S. Army Reserve or Army National Guard.

Coast Guard Foundation

Scholarships and grants help Coast Guard members, spouses, and children pursue college, training, and credentials for stronger futures and service success.

CPT James Ahn Memorial Scholarship

A $1,000 annual scholarship honoring a fallen Special Forces officer, awarded to a Special Forces veteran working toward the completion of a higher-education degree.

Disabled American Veterans Volunteer Scholarship

This college scholarship is open to volunteers age 21 or younger who have contributed a minimum of 100 hours credited through DAV or DAV Auxiliary. Students may apply with the inclusion of an essay on what volunteering for veterans means for them. Anyone can nominate a worthy candidate including the student/applicant.

Folds of Honor

Dependents and/or spouses of fallen or disabled US service members are eligible to apply for scholarships from Folds of Honor.

Freedom Alliance Scholarship Fund

The Freedom Alliance Scholarship Fund is for the children of military personnel who have been killed or have been deemed 100% totally and permanently disabled from a service-connected injury.

Gilman-McCain Scholarship

The Gilman-McCain Scholarship provides awards of $5,000 for child and spousal dependents of active or activated United States military personnel during the time of application to study or intern abroad on credit-bearing programs.

Heroes’ Legacy Scholarship

The program is open to dependent, unmarried children under the age of 23. For eligibility, a disability is defined as one that qualifies the service member to receive Traumatic Servicemembers’ Group Life Insurance (TSGLI) benefits or a 100% permanent and total disability compensation rating.

Maj. Gen. James Ursano Scholarship Program for Dependent Children

Children who meet eligibility criteria and are pursuing their first undergraduate degrees or first technical certifications may receive assistance for up to four academic years of full-time study.

Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation

The mission of the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation is to honor Marines by educating their children.

Mrs. Patty Shinseki Spouse Scholarship Program

Spouses without a four-year college degree who are pursuing their first undergraduate degrees or first technical certifications may receive assistance for up to four academic years of full-time study or eight academic years of part-time study as long as they meet all other requirements.

National Military Family Association's Joanne Holbrook Patton Military Spouse Scholarship

NMFA awards scholarships to military spouses for various types of degrees, licenses and certifications.

Navy League Foundation

The Navy League Foundation offers scholarships to high school seniors who will attend an accredited institution of higher education in the fall of the current award cycle. Eligible applicants must be a dependent, child, stepchild, grandchild, step-grandchild, or great-grandchild (direct descendant) of a current or former member of the U.S. Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard, U.S.-flag Merchant Marines, or U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps

Navy Seabee Foundation

The Navy Seabee Foundation offers scholarships to students seeking accredited two-year, and four-year degrees and career and technical scholarships. We provide scholarships exclusively to the children and grandchildren of America’s Fighting Seabees, Civil Engineer Corps (CEC) officers and those who served with the Naval Construction Force attending accredited colleges, universities, and technical schools.

Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society Education Assistance

Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society Education Assistance provides grants & interest-free loans to eligible Navy & Marine Corps dependents and MECEP/MECP students so they reach their post-secondary education goals with less financial stress.

Paralyzed Veterans of America

PVA’s mission is to improve the quality of life for its members and their families. For PVA members, spouses, or unmarried dependent children under age 24 (as defined by IRS dependency guidelines)

Pat Tillman Scholar program

The Pat Tillman Foundation selects up to 60 Tillman Scholars each year. The scholarship covers tuition, books, and living expenses.

Purple Heart Scholarship Program

The Purple Heart Scholarship Program is a competitive program that awards scholarships to Purple Heart recipients and their spouses, children, and grandchildren each year. At least one applicant with military service will be awarded the Navy SEAL LT Michael Murphy Memorial Award.

Rear Admiral Sumner Shapiro Scholarship Program

The Rear Admiral Sumner Shapiro Scholarship Program awards scholarships to dependent children (under 24 years of age) of regular and reserve Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard officer and enlisted intelligence personnel. The scholarship program also includes one specifically for active duty USN, USMC, and USCG enlisted personnel serving in intelligence-related assignments.

Fisher House Scholarships for Military Children

The Scholarships for Military Children Program was created to recognize military families' contributions to the fighting force's readiness and to celebrate the commissary's role in the military family community.

Student Veterans of America, Raytheon Patriot Scholarship

Student Veterans of America and Raytheon Missiles and Defense (RMD) have partnered to provide two (2) $10,000 scholarships to student veterans demonstrating a commitment to and passion for their chosen field of study, as well as demonstrated leadership and engagement within their community. The Patriot Scholarship is offered exclusively to U.S. Army veterans, and is named after RMD’s Patriot Air and Missile Defense System.

Veterans United Foundation

The Veterans United Foundation Scholarship is available each year to veteran's with a 100% service connected disability, or survivors of a deceased servicemember with a service-related death.

Veterans of Foreign Wars' "Sport Clips Help A Hero Scholarship"

The VFW's "Sport Clips Help A Hero Scholarship" provides service members and veterans with the financial assistance they need to complete their educational goals without incurring excessive student loan debt.
