SP5D – Platform technology for advanced 3D culturing and stem cells
The advancement of 3D cell culture technology has revolutionised the fields of scientific research, diagnostics and therapeutics, as these cell culture systems enable cells to grow in a more natural, 3D environment. This innovation mimics the complex architecture and function of tissues in vivo, providing deeper insights and more reliable data across various applications. Therefore, utilising a reliable platform is essential for pursuing these applications.
Our technical solution: The Sphericalplate 5D® (SP5D), adding reliability and reproducibility to test results. This patented platform technology enables highly standardised cell spheroids to be created, on scales from hundreds (for laboratory use) to millions (for clinical applications).
Our goal when developing the SP5D was to create an environment that imitates physiological conditions by growing standardised spheroids, with the possibility of cell-to-cell communication with no interference from external signals. At the same time, the system increases the reproducibility of subsequent tests as the cultured cell spheroids do not vary much in size, meaning each experiment starts with the same initial conditions.
Sphericalplate 5D applications
The Sphericalplate 5D has a wide range of uses across the medical and pharmaceutical industries. This includes maintenance and differentiation of stem cells on a 3D level, as well as any somatic 3D cell-type application, such as drug and toxicity screening and cancer research (ADME, DMPK).
The SP5D produces standardised, uniform, size-controlled spheroids on large scales ‒ 750 cell clusters with one move, or 9,000 per plate. In order to meet the highest medical and regulatory standards, the system enables seamless translation into diagnostic or clinical use.
Working with the ready-to-use SP5D is particularly user-friendly. The cultivation does not require any pre-treatment or centrifugation steps after seeding your cells. Changing the media is also particularly convenient by simple pipetting, as the height of the microwells has been designed to retain cell spheroids.
